Newtonian Fluid Stimulation

Newtonian Fluid Stimulation

Newtonian Fluid Stimulation transforms mathematical models for fluid viscosity, first described by Sir Isaac Newton in his 1687 “Principia Mathematica”, into a digital drawing system. More than 300 years later, these calculations became the foundation of a computer program designed specifically as an artistic tool.

Using an Apple Pencil, a simulated fluid system running on the iPad was manually “stimulated” to generate geometric patterns. Individual frames and layers were then human-curated and selected for a series of six editions, bridging computational image generation with the traditional process of selecting and producing physical artworks.
